10 Failed Movies That Became Cult Classics

9. Event Horizon

Event Horizon
Paramount

This grisly sci-fi horror flick is surely the best thing ever directed by Paul W.S. Anderson...despite the fact it didn't even crack half its $60 million budget worldwide and holds an inexplicable 26% approval on Rotten Tomatoes.

Event Horizon became popular with sci-fi fans almost immediately after it hit home video, though, and 20-plus years later, it's continually held up as one of the most striking and under-appreciated genre offerings of its period.

Stylish, inventively gory and boasting strong work from Sam Neill and Laurence Fishburne, this is the single work in Anderson's filmography that actually feels like a film, with atmosphere and thought put into it, rather than merely a product.
