10 Failed Movies That Should've Been TV Shows

4. Surrogates

You'd be forgiven for not remembering that Surrogates even existed, the $80m Bruce Willis blockbuster being greeted with little more than a shrug when it was released ten years ago, where it was quickly and quietly forgotten about after earning just $122.4m worldwide.

Jonathan Mostow's movie adaptation didn't really do anything with the movie's unique selling points and is about as generic as sci-fi action can get. However, if Surrogates was transported to the small screen then it would get plenty of time to establish its setting, and the story beats are arguably more topical than ever before.

In the future, the vast majority of the population live their lives through humanoid robot Surrogates that they control from the comfort of their own home. Just think of the allegories that could be made in an age of scarily-evolving technology and people that base their entire persona around presenting the ideal version of themselves on social media.

Throw in a rogue FBI agent and a government conspiracy that leads all the way up to the inventor of Surrogates himself and you'd have a sci-fi series that's a mix of Mr. Robot and 24, with a bit of Homeland thrown in for good measure.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
