10 Failed Movies That Should've Been TV Shows
3. The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen
An ill-judged comic book movie that saw creator Alan Moore disown any and all adaptations of his work, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is one of the most notoriously troubled productions in Hollywood history, one that sent the legendary Sean Connery into retirement. His on-set nemesis, director Steven Norrington, hasn't made a movie since.
Moore's graphic novels feature well-written characters and engaging plots, but the movie veers much too far away from the source material and into generic blockbuster territory, and even shoehorns in an unnecessary American character specifically to appeal to audiences in the United States. Like most things, the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen will no doubt be rebooted at some point, but this time it should be done on the small screen.
A period-set steampunk ensemble adventure series that features Allan Quartermain, Captain Nemo, Edward Jekyll and the Invisible Man among its cast of characters sounds like a damn good time, one that could wash away the bad taste left by the big-screen adaptation and give the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen the treatment the killer concept truly deserves.
