The Movie

When George Lucas was in the midst of crafting his original trilogy, he wasn't just thinking about the main episodic films. At one stage, he was actually considering developing two spinoff flicks - one focused on Wookiees, and one focused on droids.

Little is known about these projects, because it's clear that Lucas didn't get very far along with them. "I came up with some ideas for a film about robots, with no humans in it,” he said, adding that he also "thought of a film just about Wookiees, nothing else."

Basically, he had these loose ideas in his head... and that's about as far as each concept got.

Why It Didn't Happen

Lucas decided to focus his efforts on the mainline Star Wars trilogy, and these spinoffs never came to pass.

That said, it's possible that he gave some of his ideas to the teams that made the animated Droids and Ewoks shows, and maybe some of his Wookiee ideas made it into the disastrous Star Wars Holiday Special.

If that is the case, then we definitely dodged a blaster shot there.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
