7. The Parent Traps (1961 and 1998)
A beloved classic from the 1960s, as well as a remake that launched one of the greatest stars of our generation. Clearly, this tale of broken family hysteria is trying to impart something. Destabilization of parental authority. Through ways I cannot figure out, some youthful cabal colluded with writer/director David Swift in order to subconsciously teach children how to undermine and manipulate their parents, or trap them. As a result, the young people of the seventies were wilder and more out of control than any generation before them. How else can you explain the emergence of disco? Unfortunately, Swift and company never imagined the domino effect brought about by their short term pleasures. As the seventies kids became parents themselves, their little ones flocked to The Parent Trap and continued utilizing Haley Mills devious tactics. The terrible cycle started all over again in 1998, and Lindsay Lohan taught a whole generation of kids how to be lazy good-for-nothings. Break the cycle! Don't let your children watch any Parent Trapping whatsoever.
