10 Famous Acting Performances That Got Worse As Their Franchise Went On

8. Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) - Pirates Of The Caribbean

Easily one of the most acclaimed performances on this list goes to Johnny Depp's superb, Oscar-nominated portrayal of rum-swilling rogue Captain Jack Sparrow from the smash adventure movie Pirates of the Caribbean. Unsurprisingly, it gave birth to a host of sequels, and though Depp's shtick still proved entertaining in part two, Dead Man's Chest, by the third film, At World's End, it was clear he didn't have anything else to offer, which was extra troublesome because the flat script was clearly trying to coast on the actor's charm and the audience's affection for the character. This trend continued with the fourth (and to date, final, though a fifth is in pre-production) film, On Stranger Tides aka The Johnny Depp Show, but again, with a script this lifeless and a clear lack of enthusiasm on his part, he just went through the motions without a care in the world. This was all the more insulting given the $350 million he'd made from the franchise by this point (which even Depp agreed was too much), and with a rumoured $95 million payday pending for the upcoming fifth movie, hopefully he'll get his butt in gear and actually deliver something worth watching.
