10 Famous Actors Who Have Resigned Themselves To Just Doing Cameos

4. Bill Murray

Ever since somebody decided that it would be funny for Bill Murray to turn up in a movie for a brief moment (was it Frank Oz and Little Shop of Horrors?), be sort of Bill Murray-ish for a bit, and then disappear, has pretty much carved out over half of what would eventually account for half of the man's filmography. So whereas Bill Murray is certainly a God amongst men and has put in several fine performances over the years (Lost In Translation, Broken Flowers), he sometimes just relies on the fact that he's Bill Murray to pay the bills, too. Which means that it's become fine for him to make small, ironic appearances in any movie with space and the irony of "it's Bill Murray" seems to be enough (if that even is an irony): just ask any recent Wes Anderson film (The Darjeeling Limited seems to be directly parodying Bill Murray as a man of cameos), The Lost City, Zombieland and Get Smart. What's good is that Murray seems to be taking on more substantial roles lately, as glimpsed by both Hyde Park on Hudson and The Monuments Men. But to be honest, we'll have Murray however we can get him.
