10 Famous Movie Moments Made Possible By Totally Ignoring History

2. The Nazi Book Burnings Actually Took Place 5 Years Before Indiana Jones Stumbles Upon Them - Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade

Another Indiana Jones entry here, which might seem a little unfair, given that Indiana Jones never promised to be anything but pulpy entertainment - still, if you're set in a specific time period, it's always a good idea to check accuracy, guys (though we can be forgiving, as you didn't have the internet in 1989!). You'll remember what is probably the funniest scene in Indy's third and final (YES FINAL) adventure, then, when our hero winds up in Berlin during a Nazi book burning, and ends up rubbing shoulders with the world's worst dictator: Hitler himself. In the background of this scene, Nazi kids and Nazi teenagers and just all the Nazis in general can be seen tossing books into a large fire - we all know that this sort of book burning was common practice during the Third Reich, don't we? Well, not really: the mass book burnings (which were referred to as "literary purges") occurred back in 1933, five years prior to the year that the events of The Last Crusade takes place in. None such rally happened in '38. Again, either Indiana Jones is a time traveller, or this scene was set at Hitler's birthday party or something.
