10 Famous Movie Scenes Only Made Possible By Deceiving Actors
4. The Extras Not Understanding English Leads To Brilliant Improvisation - A Knight's Tale
Coming as something of an unexpected hit when it first galloped onto the scene back in 2001, the Heath Ledger-starring A Knight's Tale proved that there was still a place for medieval romps when it came to the world of modern cinema.
However, another rather unexpected turn of events actually took place during the filming of the hilarious tale of a squire who takes on many a knight on horseback, involving some brilliantly sharp British ensemble members and a group of extras somewhat ill-equipped for the task at hand.
After Paul Bettany's eccentric Geoffrey Chaucer finally introduces the young William Thatcher to the crowd officially for the first time, none of the cast were expecting a complete lack of response from the present audience. As it goes, this was because said extras were all from the Czech Republic and didn't speak a word of English. Left scrambling for a way to salvage the moment, the always on his toes Mark Addy delivered an awkward cheer that prompted the rest of the crowd to go nuts.
And the scene worked so well despite the actors being left to save the day off their own backs, that director Brian Helgeland opted to keep the moment in the movie too.
