4. Roger Corman Almost Directed Alien
Alien was originally pitched as "
Jaws in space," which - at first - sounds ridiculous, 'cause sharks can't swim in space, can they? Duh! And then - once you've fire up your brain - it sounds awesome. And the result, courtesy of Ridley Scott,
was awesome, but the
Blade Runner director almost didn't land the job. Nope: B-movie pioneer Roger Corman originally wanted to get involved, but never managed to get his hands on the project as its writers feared for his schlocky tendencies...
Would It Have Been Any Good? Probably not. Don't get us wrong: Corman is an American legend and has produced some of the most entertaining movies of all time, but he would've likely transformed
Alien into something far more pulpy with a ton of B-movie tropes thrown in for good measure. Not exactly the
Alien that came to change sci-fi/horror forever, hm?
