10 Famous Movies That Were Derailed By A Single Character

1. Jonathan Harker - Keanu Reeves (Bram Stoker's Dracula)

Dracula Keanu ReevesWhy They Derailed The Movie: Utterly Distracted By Awful Accent/Acting Another movie derailed by a casting choice overseen by one Francis Ford Coppola, who excelled at screwing that up in the '90s, apparently. So in this case we're talking about his otherwise great movie Bram Stoker's Dracula, which nobody really remembers as being all that great because... well, because of Jonathan Harker. The Harker character in itself is totally and utterly fine, of course: he's the central protagonist in Stoker's original novel, and the solicitor who travels to Transylvania and finds himself entangled with the titutal Count. You need the guy. But Coppola decided to cast Keanu Reeves in the role, who spends pretty much the entire movie talking in what has to be the worst English accent ever put on celluloid. There is simply no defending it. Listen to a few dialogue cues ("Bloody wolves chasing me through some blue inferno!") and you'll know why his performance not only derailed the movie, but made it near-on impossible to watch (and it's not just the accent, as per usual with Keanu Reeves). Which is a shame, given that Gary Oldman is doing what is best described as "awesome acting." Like this list? Let us know in the comments section below.
