Cars is a movie about talking cars that drive around and do car-ish things, which basically translates as "Pixar were running out of ideas at this point." And although Cars already seems kind of lacklaster by Pixar's high standards anyway, the movie might be even more of a shoddy product than you first thought - in the sense that somebody accidently pitched the movie Doc Hollywood, and nobody at the studio picked up on the fact that that story had already been done before. In the movie Doc Hollywood. I'm saying that Cars is Doc Hollywood. So how similar are we talking? Well, let's just say that one of these movies is about a hot shot who accidently ends up in a small town in Godknowswhere, only to learn to slow down and appreciate life, and maybe not be such a douchebag all the time. Wait, did I say one of these movies? I meant both. The only difference is that the main character in Cars is a car, and in Doc Hollywood it's Michael J. Fox, a plastic surgeon. The similarities don't end there, by the way - both plots run in perfect parallel, with the main character causing an accident at the beginning, being sentenced to community service, and eventually falling in love with a small town girl. What gives, right? Well, the likelihood is that somebody at Pixar thought they'd made up this story on their own, though really they were subconsciously channelling Doc Hollywood, whose insanely genius premise had lodged itself into their brain at some point. Or, you know, they fell asleep watching it a few nights before and totally forgot. Ah, the magic of Hollywood. Like this article? Let us know in the comments section below.
