10 Famous Movies You Didn't Realise Were Already Other Movies

8. The Fast and the Furious (2001) Is Point Break (1991)

fast and furious

The Fast and The Furious is a movie that was made for people who like stories limited to the sounds of cars revving, which is why it was received negatively by critics and the public at large. People thought that they didn't like it just because it was plain bad, though, and not because they'd actually seen it 10 years before in a different movie entirely. Fact is, The Fast and The Furious is Kathryn Bigelow's Point Break, with the only notable exception being that there are annoying car junkies in the movie instead of annoying surf dudes. Think about it. Point Break tells the story of an undercover cop who infiltrates a gang based around the "sport" that is cool at the time. In the '90s, that was surfing, and given that the idea of "doing sport" died at the beginning of the 21st century, in Furious we got cars. Undercover cop learns to respect said gang, falls in love with a girl that works in a restaurant, and lets the bad guy go in the end, 'cause respect. Both movies even feature leads with limited acting ability in Keanu Reeves and that other actor, whose name I don't know and have chosen never to learn.
