10 Famous Things That Were Invented By Movie Time Travellers
9. Marty McFly Invented Rock Music - Back To The Future
Once upon a time, a young man named Marty McFly went back to the year 1955 and changed history. Without this intrepid trailblazer, we'd probably all still be sitting around in poodle skirts listening t0 Perry Como. Because at a humble high school dance in Southern California, Marty McFly gave us the gift of rock. He busted out a cover of Johnny B. Goode, ripping off stylistic elements from every major guitarist from the past fifty years. His work is so groundbreaking that Marvin Berry calls his cousin Chuck and encourages him to steal Marty's sound. And that, kiddies, is how the white man actually taught black people how to play rock music. Is this potentially problematic revisionism? Sure. Given the fact that most of early rock music was stolen from black artists only to be made popular and lucrative by white crooners, it's possibly a little racially insensitive to suggest that the opposite happened. Except, of course, in this film, because Marty McFly is awesome and clearly invented rock music. There also needs to be a quick shout out to Marty for inventing the skateboard...roughly eleven years after it first made its appearance in Paris. But who cares, it's Marty McFly, he can invent whatever he wants whenever he wants, no questions asked.
