6. It's A Sequel, Not A Remake - Evil Dead (2013)

If you're a big Evil Dead fan, you may have been disappointed to learn the movie would be getting a remake rather than a sequel. How could they ever top the greatness of the original? Well, the film really ends up doing its own thing with a new plot and new characters, and according to a common fan theory, it's not a remake at all: it's actually a sequel.

The remake is set in the present day while the originals were set in the 1980s, and so theoretically after Ash traveled in time, the cabin would still be standing with the Necronomicon intact. Fans speculate that the girl in the opening of the remake finds the book where Ash left it, she unleashes a new wave of demons, and then the Necronomicon is hidden away in the basement again for our main characters to find.

There's also the fact that the car from the first movie shows up, and Ash is even there in the post-credits stinger. In a deleted scene, he actually appears at the very end and kills a deadite, so if that were canon, the two movies would be more obviously linked. The director has said he honestly isn't sure if it's a shared or alternate universe, but reading it as the former certainly makes the movie a lot more fun.
