5. James Cameron Tries To Break His Own Box Office Record With Avatar 2
I still remain utterly unconvinced that Avatar 2 is going to be in cinemas within 2.5 years from now, given how notoriously long director James Cameron labours over projects, even if he does ultimately produce consistently spectacular results. However, test footage for the movie was unspooled this week at the Siggraph computer graphics meeting, which apparently demonstrated the advanced technology moving forward, which would further streamline Cameron's performance capture process and allow for even more lifelike facial expressions within vividly-rendered environments. Producer Jon Landau also emphasised the necessity for the story to take precedent, said perhaps as a rebuke to those who saw the original film's premise as its most flawed aspect (who didn't?). Still, Cameron doesn't throw himself into projects lightly, and you can be sure that if this really is moving forward this quickly, he's got something outstanding up his sleeve, even if it might dazzle more on a technical level than narratively.
