10 Female Film Characters With The Morals Of An Alley Cat

4. Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill! (1995) - Varla

Faster Faster The incredible Tura Satana made a legendary splash in the world of cult cinema with her portrayal of bad to the bone Varla - a woman without a single thread of moral fibre - in Russ Meyer's Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill! The film's success rests largely on Tura Satana's immoral, cold hearted Varla. She is so statuesque and menacing, she would terrify anyone. Her antics include breaking a man's neck with her own hands, taking a young girl hostage and plying her full of drugs to keep her quiet, cynically sussing out that a nearby family has money and going to get it. And then there is more casual murder when she kills her fellow Go Go dancer Billie. By the end of the film, Varla's evilness reaches epic proportions and she almost becomes supernatural in her villainy. However, she gets run over by the little squirt of a girl she kidnapped. I thought she deserved a better ending! With her impressive physique, lack of morals and murderous disposition, Varla is one of the all time great female baddies in cinema. Every line that springs from her mouth is quotable material to rival Tarantino. B Movie cinema does not get much better than Faster Pussycat. Like all Meyer productions, it is fast paced and zips along in a jaunty manner. The immoral Varla is the icing on the cake.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
