4. Kevin Smith vs Richard Roeper
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=as5cMwVdRtw Kevin Smith is a guy who has an obvious passion for cinema. The director has carved out some great work over the years - ranging from the chaotic Dogma, to the surprisingly sweet and funny Zack & Miri Make A Porno. His reputation earned him several guest slots alongside film critic Richard Roeper on the Ebert & Roeper TV review show whilst Roger Ebert underwent surgery, and his input and reviewing style was insightful and intriguing to listen to. Perhaps that's what makes Smith's sudden roar of anger against the critic community even more surprising. Smith had done plenty of critiquing himself - both positive and negative - but simply couldn't contain himself when his 2010 film Cop Out was universally panned. The director took to twitter to comment on how giving Cop Out a negative review was akin to "bullying a retarded kid". If this hypocritical, ignorant, myopic comment wasn't enough to make Smith look like a fool, then his personal attack on Richard Roeper certainly was. Despite having been close friends after doing several review shows together, Smith went after Roeper on twitter, calling him every name under the sun, before commenting that "Roeper is the kind of guy who's nice to your face, then stabs you in the back". Roeper retorted that he was simply doing his job: he didn't like Cop Out - so he'd given it a negative review. It doesn't appear as though the two have mended fences as such, but Roeper was one of the 39% of critics on Rotten Tomatoes to provide Smith's peculiar film Tusk with a positive review. It'll be interesting to see what he thinks of the film's spin-off - Yoga Hosers - which is due out later this year.
