10 Film Directors Who Desperately Need A Win

There's been so much continued speculation surrounding the near-mythical Snyder Cut of Justice League that a lot of people might not even be aware that Zack Snyder recently wrapped shooting on $90m zombie flick Army of the Dead for Netflix.

It marks the filmmaker's first project outside of the DCEU since Sucker Punch almost a decade ago, and having dedicated so much of his time to a franchise that he's no longer the driving force behind that also seems to be quietly rebooting and distancing itself from his involvement altogether, how his next movie fares is crucial.

As a Netflix movie from a big-name director, Army of the Dead is going to rack up a lot of viewers regardless, but reviews need to be solid at the very least for a number of reasons. For one, Snyder is returning to the genre that launched his career with Dawn of the Dead, and his latest needs to be good enough to avoid comparisons or accusations that he's simply playing it safe by returning to the well.

Second, if it receives widespread critical acclaim then the conversation surrounding the Snyder Cut will only intensify, particularly with HBO Max available by then, but if it turns out to be a bust then his already-slim chances of ever getting to complete his original version of Justice League will surely be gone completely.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
