10 Film Franchises That Became Something Else Entirely

1. The Fast And The Furious

Furious 7 Car Jump

Vin Diesel starts the list, Vin Diesel ends the list. How poetic.

Well, as poetic as supercars jumping through buildings can be.

In 2001, one of the biggest, most ridiculous film franchises of all time revved into life as undercover cop Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker) attempted to bring down Diesel's street racing kingpin Dominic Toretto.

The film ends with the two men forming a friendship - some might even call it a "fambly" - but the story was far from over.

2 Fast 2 Furious. Tokyo Drift. Fast & Furious. Fast 5. Fast & Furious 6. Furious 7. The Fate of the Furious. F9. Fast X. The movies kept on coming and the naming conventions kept on getting worse.

Since initially meeting, Brian, Dom, and their friends have outrun helicopters, jumped cars across skyscrapers, deflected nuclear missiles, parachuted in cars, and gone to actual space.

This series used to be about street racing! How did this happen?

The Fast movies aren't car movies anymore. They're superhero flicks, filled with impossible feats of action, garish gadgets, and shady villains. They are completely ludicrious, but hey, if that's what you want out of a film, you honestly can't do much better.
