1. Glinda (The Wizard Of Oz) Using A Small Girl To Gain Power
From her very first appearance in the film, Glinda's morals seem a little awry. She explicitly says to Dorothy that "Only bad witches are ugly". Lovely moral for the kids there. Then when the Wicked Witch of the West arrives, Glinda purposefully stirs up trouble between her and Dorothy by giving the ruby slippers to the girl. This upsets the Wicked Witch no end which is fairly justified, given that they belonged to her sister and it might be all she had to remember her by. But Glinda's response is to make fun of the recently bereaved Wicked Witch and point all the Wicked Witch's anger and emotion straight at poor little Dorothy. Glinda then sends Dorothy off to see the Wizard, neglecting to mention that Dorothy could have used the slippers to return home at any point. She leaves that until after Dorothy has murdered the Wicked Witch and revealed the Wizard to be a fraud. She has essentially manipulated a small girl into being her personal assassin. This means the two Wicked Witches and the Wizard are all gone, leaving Glinda pretty much in charge of Oz. How unexpectedly convenient for the Good Witch. What should be pretty clear by now is that under Glinda's bright and bubbly exterior lurks a Machiavellian intellect scheming for power and willing to use whatever and whoever is at her disposal to get it. And if we take Oz the Great and Powerful as cannon, then Glinda stole the Wicked Witch's boyfriend as well! So there you have it, one of the most evil people in film is the one with "Good" right there in her name. Don't agree? Post your comments below!
