10 Film Podcasts Worth Listening To

1. The /Filmcast

The sheer output of episodes that David Chen, Devindra Hardawar, and Adam Quigley have produced over four years is staggering. After Peter Sciretta of /Film.com obtained the trio's previous podcast, The Watchers, The /Filmcast was formed. Since then, the podcast has rarely skipped a week, releasing 90-120 minute episodes AND another hour of Q&A/discussion (which has recently ended). Major guests (Rian Johnson, Richard Kelly, Kevin Smith, Marc Webb, and some of the finest critics online) join the group to discuss what they've been watching, before discussing the week's film news. Finally, they delve into a review of a new release, including a spoiler section. The hosts' personal lives have caused a drop in the quantity of episodes, but the quality has stayed in tact. The diversity of the hosts lead to great discussion. David and Adam are very outspoken in their opinions, with Devindra being a calm presence that keeps episodes from being overly negative or positive. Now the show is essentially a staple of my week, with new episodes being downloaded and listened to by habit. Whenever you start listening, you'll become the same way.

If you need to be sold on the podcast, search for any episode featuring Rian Johnson (director of Brick, The Brothers Bloom, Looper). They are must-listens. Recent appearances have featured Rian Johnson derailing the show by playing his banjo or loudly rattling ice whenever the hosts are trying to talk.
