10 Film Podcasts Worth Listening To

7. The Tobolowsky Files

Stephen Tobolowsky is a character actor whose resume includes Mississippi Burning, Memento, Garfield, Glee, and Seinfeld. Tobolowsky is also a master storyteller, as seen in the movie Stephen Tobolowsky's Birthday Party. After David Chen (of the /Filmcast) saw that movie, he contacted Tobolowsky to be on his show. He mentioned to Tobolowsky the idea of turning his movie into a podcast, and a legend was born. Each episode is just Tobolowsky telling multiple stories, weaving them together at the end with a theme or lesson, and it is masterful. Topics range from stories behind-the-scenes of famous movies and life lessons learned. In the multi-episode retelling of his open heart surgery, Tobolowsky actually creates suspense and fear for a story we know the outcome of. Episodes have slowed to once a month, but we are lucky to get twelve hours of listening this good a year. It can be downloaded here. When is it released?: Once a month on Fridays.Notable episodes: The Stranger; The Open Heart Surgery Trilogy (The Rubicon, The Return of Mr. Huge, The Long Road to Somewhere Else)
