4. Maleficent

Plot: A once kind-hearted fairy named Maleficient has her heart turned into stone after she suffers a ruthless betrayal. She then puts a curse on a young princess after she faces an intense battle with the invading king's successor. As the princess grows up, Maleficent realizes she could be the key to peace in the kingdom. Based on: The Sleeping Beauty fairytale and it's a re-imagining of the 1959 animated Disney film. Maleficient is told from the evil fairy's perspective. It has been quite some time since we've seen Angelina Jolie star in anything, let alone a high profile summer blockbuster film. The last movie she appeared in was 2010's The Tourist, and before that, it was Salt. Since then, she's appeared as a voice in the last Kung Fu Panda movie. I'm sure many people will be curious to see her in this new Disney fairy tale, considering Maleficient is a pretty badass villain. Can she do the role justice? Will people flock to see this like they did with Alice in Wonderland or Oz the Great and Powerful? Or could this have the same fate as Jack the Giant Slayer? One thing worth noting about director Robert Stromberg is that he's primarily a visual effects artist and production designer. Maleficient will actually be his feature film debut as a director. Stromberg does have a pretty awesome resume though. He's worked on films such as Life of Pi, Avatar, and Alice in Wonderland. He has been in the business for over 25 years. Still, it can't be easy to jump from production design to directing a $200 million movie. It will be interesting to see if he can pull it off.
