10 Film Reboots And Remakes To Be Concerned About In 2014

5. Godzilla

Plot: According to Legendary Pictures, "This spectacular adventure pits the world's most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity's scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence." Based on: The 1954 Godzilla film, produced by Japan's Toho studios. They later produced 28 more films featuring the famous monster. Hollywood's first attempt at producing a Godzilla movie lead to the disastrous 1998 film which was directed by Roland Emmerich. There were many reasons to be skeptical about a new Godzilla film, and there still are, but the latest trailer for the movie is definitely a good sign. Gareth Edwards showed a lot of promise in his 2010 film Monsters, though this will be quite the leap in budget for him. He shot Monsters on a $500,000 budget, Godzilla's budget is reported to be at least $160 million. So yes, there is reason for concern, but if Edwards can rise to the challenge then we can finally have a great Godzilla movie for the 21st century. That's pretty exciting. Godzilla is the one property that I am more than happy to see get a reboot. It's an awesome monster and we could definitely use some more monster films. I know some of you still love superhero movies and that's great for you, but X-Men came out when I was 12. I consider X-Men and 2002's Spider-Man to be the two films that really started up the endless string of superhero movies that we see today. I am in my mid-20s now. There used to be a time when obsessing over superheroes was looked down upon once you reach a certain age. That's how I feel about them now. I want more variety, don't you? It's about time we started seeing monsters wreaking havoc on people, isn't it? Pacific Rim was a promising enough start and I hope Godzilla can be the film that continues to steer Hollywood in that direction.
