9. Satan (Buffyverse)
This is a strange one. First things first; I know that's not Satan in the picture - it's Caleb - and I know Satan didn't even appear in the Buffyverse (not in the television canon anyway), but this entry is based purely on an implication. In most sources of fiction, Satan (or the devil) is depicted as the ultimate evil. He is the very reason that evil exists and the lord of hell who punishes you for eternity after your death if you have sinned during your lifetime. Some depictions of Satan even have him as the omnipotent opposite of God himself. However, in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the reason that evil exists and to that extent the ultimate evil is a non-corporeal entity known as the First Evil. Caleb was the earthly vessel for the First Evil and, as such, would sometimes merge with it to gain its power. In his first episode, he picks up Shannon - a potential slayer - and pretends to be helping her at first, after she was chased by some of his henchmen. When he is still pretending to be helping Shannon, he asks her if she had been involved with devil worshippers, but when he reveals that he is actually the boss of the men who were chasing her, he says "and they don't truck with Satan - that was just me having fun. Satan is a little man." For Caleb - a guy who was eventually soundly defeated by the slayer - to be saying that the Buffyverse Satan is "a little man", he really can't be all that powerful.
