10 Film & TV Serial Killers We Can't Help But Love

9. Patrick Bateman - American Psycho

Come on, how can you not be drawn to Patrick Bateman? He represents dark humor at its best, living in a shallow yuppie world where he's a stockbroker by day, psychotic ax-murderer by night. How can you not be taken in by the perfect light Bateman shines on the utter emptiness of modern society? The mask that he wears while he's out in public is a masterpiece, and Christian Bale creates so many small moments that really make the film. His entire interior monologue about the different types of business cards, and the horrible jealousy he feels upon realizing that one of his coworkers has a better business card than he does, is classic. Patrick Bateman is the one bad guy who is capable of making serial murder hilarious, no mean feat. You don't want to like him -- after all, he's a greedy, sex-crazed maniac who chops people into little bits. But when he makes the call to murder Jared Leto while enthusiastically extolling the virtues of Huey Lewis and the News, you just can't help it.
