10 Film & TV Serial Killers We Can't Help But Love
5. Billy Bickle - Seven Psychopaths
Well, first of all, Billy Bickle is played by Sam Rockwell, so we as human beings are contractually obligated to like him. He's one of the leading characters in the criminally underrated Seven Psychopaths, which comes off as an only slightly less intelligent version of a Quentin Tarantino film. Essentially, Rockwell plays the main character's best friend, who suggests that he use the recently publicized Jack of Diamonds Killer as the basis for his newest screenplay, the aptly named Seven Psychopaths. Then later, we find out that he actually is the murderer, who kills people and leaves a Jack of Diamonds playing card at the scene of the crime. But he only did it to provide his friend, suffering from writer's block, with a little bit of inspiration. It's such a strange, misguided display of friendship, and of course Sam Rockwell manages to sell it. But even beyond the frankly bizarre origin story, there's something a little bit different about Billy. Unlike a lot of serial killers, he isn't withdrawn or emotionally distant. In fact...well, is it too glib to say that his murder spree could basically be chalked up to, "it seemed like a good idea at the time"?
