10 Films Booed At Cannes That Went On To Win Many Awards

8. Wild At Heart (1990) - David Lynch

Pulp Fiction Royale With Cheese

When you see a name like David Lynch attached to any film, you know it is not going to be a straight forward narrative film like anything you have seen before. Wild At Heart was certainly proof of that. And the close-minded contingent of Cannes was out in force to show disapproval.

Wild At Heart is one of the films on this list however that won the Palme d’Or and was not booed when the award was collected – to be fair, there was no considerable competition that year. By the time the award ceremony came around, the violent aspects of the film had faded from most people’s memories, much like the film eventually did in the scope of Lynch’s other far more notable achievements.

He’s back to Twin Peaks people. Rejoice.

Notable Accolades:

Probably one of the few Palme d’Or winners that did not go on to find considerable success elsewhere, Wild At Heart managed just a handful of nominations but all that were substantial, including a Golden Globes and an Academy Award nod, were for Diane Ladd as best supporting actress.
