The Original: John Carpenter’s loose remake of The Thing From Another World featured an all-male Antarctic expedition (led by Kurt Russell) that encountered an alien life form capable of transforming itself into an exact replica of a human being.

The Remake: Wipe the 2011 prequel/reboot/whatever from your memory and try to imagine the same story done with decent effects and a female ensemble. A cast of upcoming actresses – Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina), Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit), Mamie Gummer (Side Effects), Lyndsy Fonseca (Kick Ass) and Mika Boorem (The Ward) – encounter a group of Norwegian scientists who’ve apparently discovered an alien spacecraft in the Arctic ice and thawed out its inhabitant.

Would It Work? Provided the characters are written with more depth (and have better dialogue) than is usual in these types of films, this could really be something special. Plus, doesn’t every Fangoria-reading fanboy secretly want to see Alicia Vikander as a flamethrower-wielding monster hunter?
