10 Films Hollywood Should Have Remade Instead Of Ben Hur

5. Invasion Of The Body Snatchers

I know, I know – they’ve already remade this movie not once, not twice, but three times, most recently as The Invasion with Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman. If you haven’t seen that version, here’s a one word review: meh.

Every Body Snatchers movie reflects the concerns of the decade it was made in, so the 1956 original is really about Communist infiltration of the US, the 1978 remake is about post-Watergate paranoia and the 1994 version dwells on post-cold war tensions.

Imagine the fun you can have with a story about spores from outer space turning human beings into soulless “pod people” in the era of social media, shared cinematic universes and corporate branding. In our version, the story involves a teenage girl who doesn’t understand why all popular culture is so similar until she realizes that everyone else in her town has transformed into a facsimile of a human being. Which come to think of it would make them the perfect audience for Batman V Superman….
