10 Films Inspired By Real Life Events (That Never Actually Happened)
5. The Amiytville Horror House Isn't Actually Haunted
Arguably, The Amityville Horror is the O.G of haunted house movies and the reasons for why lay in the story that inspired it.
The actual house the film focuses on was the scene of a horrifying murder of six members of one family by the eldest son. A year later, the Lutz family moved into the house and over the course of the next 28 days spent living there, claimed that they were terrorised into leaving by an assortment of paranormal phenomena.
The alleged hauntings went on to inspire the movie and all of its subsequent sequels, remakes, and perhaps most famously in recent years, The Conjuring.
But there just isn't any evidence to support anything ever happened apart from the testimony of the Lutz family.
Even the claims of a "priest" hired to investigate the house have varied wildly, at one point claiming he never went to the house, only to then say the one time he did go there he felt something slap him across the face and got blisters on his hands afterwards.
Since the Lutz family left the house no further alleged hauntings or phenomena have ever been reported, with one resident even quipping the weirdest thing he had ever seen in his whole time living in the house to have only been the fans of the films that flocked to see it en masse.
