10 Films Intended To Be R-Rated That Got Neutered To PG-13

6. Slender Man

Venom Nineties Cartoon
Sony Pictures

Introduced to the shrouded realms of the internet in 2009, Slender Man became a piece of modern folklore unlike anything else. He was really the first and only urban legend created and spread by the internet, and from 2009 to 2011, he was easily one of the hottest horror properties on the market.

So when it was announced that the character was set to get his own film, there was plenty of reason to be intrigued. But then the film's release was pushed back and moved around several different times, with rumors leaking out that the film's post-production had been plagued by several violent disagreements between the creators and their distributors at Sony.

When the film was finally released, the evidence was clear. The film had been watered down to the point that it was practically unrecognizable. Entire sequences from the first trailer had been removed, with the whole film being cut down to a PG-13 by the studio, in hopes of avoiding backlash due to the real-life murders associated with the character from back in 2014.

The film that was released in theaters is, as a result, an incomprehensible mess with entire chunks of the film very noticeably missing.
