10 Films That Are Better The Less You Know Going In
2. Avengers: Infinity War
Is there a single person in the world spinning more narrative plates right now than Kevin Feige? The culmination of an 18 film decade long franchise, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Infinity War was one of the most hotly anticipated, and voraciously studied movies of the century.
Leading up to series Big Bad Thanos’ attempts to gain ultimate power through The Infinity Stones, the crossover event brought together almost every single Marvel hero seen onscreen to date. Despite their best efforts, the combined might of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes did not prove enough to stop The Mad Titan, and fans worldwide were left in disbelief as half of their heroes turned to dust before their eyes.
Hollywood trailers can often reveal too much, just look at DC’s bungled reveal of Doomsday in the ill fated Dawn of Justice, but this is one trap the MCU managed to sidestep. Owing to expert use of fake or disordered footage in trailers, such as a fabricated appearance of the Hulk, and expert corralling of the famously loose lipped Tom Holland, the studio was able to keep everything about the movie purely speculative.
This ignorance proved to be a godsend for the fans, as the film kept the question of its outcome on a knife edge right up until Thanos snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, and the heartbreaking ending (yes I’m talking about Spiderman - no I'm not okay) became all the more shocking.
