10 Films That Could Join The Billion-Dollar Club In 2016
3. Moana
Heard of Moana, the 56th animated feature to be brought to you by the House of Mouse? Quite possibly not, but then again there’s a reasonable chance you hadn’t heard of Frozen either before it arrived in cinemas a few years ago and promptly became the most successful animated feature of all time.
Disney are on a roll, and not just because of their shrewd acquisition of Pixar, Marvel and the Star Wars franchise. This decade alone has seen the release of Tangled, Wreck-it Ralph and the newly-minted classic Zootopia, which has only just been ousted from its position as 2016’s biggest earner.
So it would be exceedingly unwise to bet against Moana, the story of the eponymous young adventurer who sets sail for a fabled island, with Dwayne Johnson as demi-god Maui along for the ride. Moana has a lot to do if it’s to keep up with the Frozens and Zootopias of this world when it arrives in November, and there’s no trailer to be found as yet and barely a sniff of footage. Regardless, expect another big win for Disney and, with a new princess in town and Christmas just around the corner, reluctant last-minute shopping sprees for parents everywhere.
