It’s now been almost five years since Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2 brought one of cinema’s most successful and beloved franchises to a close. Or so we thought.

Back in 2001, J.K. Rowling wrote a short book under the pseudonym of Newt Scamander as an Easter egg of sorts for the fans and to raise money for Comic Relief. Fast forward to September 2013 and Warner Bros. announced that Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them would form the basis of a new trilogy in the Harry Potter universe, with Rowling herself taking on script duties. In an age where we’re surely nearing peak pique as regards reboots, offshoots and spin-offs, this news was rapturously received.

Eddie Redmayne will play Scamander as we relocate to 1920s New York for a plot revolving around the escape of a slew of dangerous creatures from Newt’s briefcase and the subsequent furore in a world where relations between magicians and Muggles are already strained.

It’s somewhat remarkable to note that the Transformers franchise can boast more billion-dollar grossers than its Harry Potter counterpart, with only Deathly Hallows Part 2 reaching that sum.
