Theater owners would undoubtedly pleased to see Damien Chazelle, a director who has continuously championed the theater experience in his work, and even more pleased to see what he brought.

As a follow-up to his Academy Award-winning La La Land, the director's next film is even more ambitious. First Man chronicles the journey of Neil Armstrong and the crew of the Apollo 11 as they journey to the moon, with an all-star cast being front by Ryan Gosling as Armstrong.

Chazelle emphasized that the way in which he and his team approached the film was not to simply do a biopic, but to create something much more immersive. He said that he hopes the film puts viewers squarely in the ship with the crew “as they shot through the heavens and took those first few steps on the moon".

Between Chazelle's emphasis on the film being an event and the emotionally resonant footage that was shown, many were quick to peg First Man as an awards contender and Chazelle and Gosling, specifically, as early bets for nominations.
