5. The Dark Knight Rises
The Third installment of Christopher Nolan's Batman series was eagerly awaited and on the whole did not disappoint in continuing its gritty and realistic portrayal of Gotham City. With new incarnations of Bane which frankly blew Joel Schumacher's attempt out of the water and Catwoman which was equally as respectful to the DC creators, it was generally speaking a smash hit, the third highest grossing film of 2012.
The Reveal: Despite its successes, one of the twists of the film reveals that Wayne Enterprises executive Miranda Tate is, in fact Talia al Ghul, daughter of Liam Neeson's, Ra's al Ghul previously seen in
Batman Begins. This revelation is remarkably predictable as the audience begins to ask questions early on in the film; why would an executive have battle scars on her back? Why does the infant 'Bane' not only resemble a young girl, but also bear a striking resemblance to Marion Cortillard?
