4. Secret Window
Whilst remaining a rather enjoyable Film, S
ecret Window stars Johnny Depp in a familiar eccentric, isolated role that tipifies his acting career, yet retaining an air of coolness that inly Depp can deliver. He plays Mort Rainey who engages into a dispute with simple-sounding southern dairy farmer John Shooter (John Turturro) surrounding the simlarities in the pair's literary work.
The Reveal: In yet another example of fragmented minds and personalities, John Shooter is revealed to be nothing more than a figment of Mort's imagination, a product of his struggle to deal wth divorce proceedings, writer's block and hermit-like lifstyle. Therefore, the violent acts blames on Shooter are revealed to be committed by Rainey himself with the piece culminating in the bloody murder of his ex-wife. The vague nature of Shooter's character and the fact that only Mort has any recollection of the dairy farmer makes the ending, like
The Machinist, rather easy to work out as the Film develops, a predictable twist.
