The third mockumentary film based on characters from Sacha Baron Cohen's Da Ali G Show, Brüno follows the candid exploits of the titular Austrian fashion reporter as he unleashes himself on the world at large.

After being fired from his own television show Funkytime with Brüno for disrupting an actual catwalk at Milan Fashion Week, Brüno is dumped by his disgraced lover Diesel. After some brief heartache, Brüno decides the time is right to chase his goal of travelling to the United States to become the "biggest gay Austrian celebrity since Hitler".

What he actually achieves is embarrassing, bemusing and infuriating the US public along with a number of unwitting celebrities in a film that, while not his best, is still packed with Baron Cohen's patented gags that balance on the border between hilarious and cringe-worthy.

One joke that the Borat actor felt even he was unable to make at the time was at the expense of Michael Jackson, who died shortly before the film was due for release after overdosing on a drug cocktail prescribed by his personal physician Conrad Murray.

The deleted scene, which later emerged as a DVD extra, involved Bruno serving Jackson's sister fresh sushi off the extremely hairy body of a naked man and stealing her phone to copy Michael's phone number.
