8. Gandhi
Im not talking about the sadness implemented in the painting of Ben Kingsley's face (although he was born 'Krishna Pandit Bhanji, so apparently it's fine) and popping out his ears with clay putty that is, incidentally, hilariously apparent on the Blu Ray version of this film No, this entry is solely included for the many shames the British Empire has in it's convoluted 'colonization' past. Including flicks like Zulu, erm, Zulu Dawn and to an extent Lawrence of Arabia - The British Empire once colonized nations in an attempt to make them 'regal', which subsequently lead to a plight of independence for most. India was one of those nations, and Mahatma Gandhi is largely recognised for the catalyst of such actions - Something that is perfectly weighted and unbias in the Richard Attenborough film that depicts his humble and great life. In a move to gain independence from the grasp of the British Empire, Gandhi advocated the use of 'non violent protest' against the British, despite the knee jerk reaction of the Empire to his protesting. What did the British do in retaliation? They killed hundreds of peaceful protesters in the in what is now dubbed the 'Jallianwala Bagh massacre'. Mahatma Gandhi was born in Bombay Presidency,
British India - Which is now Gujarat, India - Proof, if ever it was needed, that our once regal and thriving love for taking over 'savage' nations and making them our own, wasn't always (rightfully) successful.
