10 Films That Only Make Sense If You See The Director’s Cut
6. Kingdom Of Heaven
Kingdom Of Heaven is the perfect example of a movie that was stripped of its essence in the editing room.
The theatrical cut of Ridley Scott's historical drama failed to impress critics, with many dismissing it as a bog standard Orlando Bloom action vehicle, but when the director's cut arrived with 45 minutes of additional footage, its true nature became apparent.
Scott delivered an epic tale of the Crusades with fleshed-out characters and a sprawling narrative. Its only crime? Failing to fit within a 144-minute time frame.
Although the director's cut runs for more than three hours, it actually flows much smoother than the cinematic edition and thus feels shorter.
Bloom's character, in particular, benefited from the extra screen time, going from one-dimensional military strategist in the original version to fully fleshed-out protagonist in the extended edition.
