10 Films That Unveil The Dark Side Of Sports

1. Paterno

Paterno is a vivid dissection of the two-week fall of American Hero, Coach Joe Paterno. Just after the infamous Penn State coach receives news that lung cancer has been detected after an MRI, his world would spiral out of control for a different, horrific reason.

It was unveiled to the world that Jerry Sandusky had sexually abused several young boys and the school kept it quiet. But it was even more shocking when it was unveiled that the beloved coach Paterno knew this was happening and did nothing to stop it.

This is a dark chapter in college sports history that goes from drama to horror film when you learn how many people were okay with sweeping something this awful under the table for the honor of their school. In order to maintain their superiority in the NCAA and continue to win games these horrible acts of depravity were allowed to go unpunished.

This was understandable in the movie Spotlight with the Catholic church having the means to get away with this, but when it is discovered that a prestigious state college can also prove that if it takes a village to raise a child it takes a historic athletic program to sexually assault one.
