10 Films That Would Make Great TV Shows

8. Mullholland Drive

Mullholland Drive may have recently been voted the best film of the 21st century (so far) by film critics, but let's not forget that David Lynch originally intended it to be a television series. It began as a 90-minute pilot, but then television execs refused to pick it up (have they not seen Twin Peaks?!). So, refusing to ditch his story, Lynch spliced an extra 45-minutes of film into the pilot to make it a feature-length film.

The film is rightly celebrated by many, but because of the improvised ending it meant that there was a book's worth of unanswered questions that many Lynch fans are still scratching their heads over to this day. Subplots are abandoned, and I for one still want to know what the deal is with the monster outside the diner. Just imagine if it was picked up as a TV series - who doesn't want to see Lynch explore and pick apart the razzle dazzle and the seedy side of Hollywood in multiple hours?

Thankfully for Lynch fans, Twin Peaks makes its long, long, long awaited return later this year. Should the next visit to Twin Peaks be a successful one, who's to say that Lynch wouldn't want to drive down Mullholland Drive (and presumably crash) again?
