10 Films The Irish Censors Hated

6. Monty Python's The Meaning of Life (1983)

the menaing Late Monty Python comedy musical sketch fare dealing with the various stages of life. I watched it when I was about 15 and found it so grotesque I have been unable to watch it since although I do admit some of the sketches are very funny. But I can't, I just can't, watch Mr Creosote vomit his guts up again and then explode after a wafer thin mint! Other memorable sketches include the Protestant vs Catholic views on contraception - 'Every Sperm is Sacred'. John Cleese giving some sex education to school boys via demonstration with his wife. Live organ donation against the victim's will. The Irish Censors banned it immediately upon its release in 1983 but lifted the ban in 1990. It now has a 15 certificate on video and DVD release.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
