10 Films Titles That Had Nothing To Do With The Plot

8. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

Kiss Bang This underrated 2005 crime film not only marks Robert Downey Jr's first step back into stardom, but also the return to form of screenwriter and director Shane Black of Lethal Weapon fame, who would later reunite with Downey Jr to take on Iron Man 3. Like the previously mentioned Cop Out, the inception of this film's title came late in production. The film itself is an homage the the old detective movies of the 50's black and white era with a modern day spin. Stellar performances by both Downey Jr and Val Kilmer make this a very enjoyable crime caper with plenty of wit and meta-humor to spare. Though it was hailed with positive reviews by critics, the film itself underperformed at the box office. Perhaps some of this could be attributed to the title? There are kisses in the movie, and certainly plenty of bangs, but at first glance it seems like an odd title. It says nothing about the plot, and emotes a sense of ambiguous genre. Don't get me wrong, after seeing the film and loving it, I found the title to be quite catchy, but on a first impression basis, it has little to do with the movie. The original screenplay title Shane Black had for it was "You''ll Never Die in this Town Again." It went through a couple of changes throughout production, such as "L.A.P.I." and "Bang!" until Val Kilmer finally suggested "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang," and the title just stuck.
