10 Films To Watch Out For At TIFF 2013

9. The Fake (Yeon Sang-Ho, 2013) South Korea

Fake The Fake is the second feature length animation from South Korean director Yeon Sang-Ho- previously known for his ultra-violent animation The King Of Pigs. The Fake is being shown on Sat. 7 at 9:00PM, Mon. 9 at 9:00PM and Friday 13 at 3:00PM as part of the Vanguard programme. The Saturday screening will be it's World Premiere. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5AFq3NezKA The film is, "a blistering critique of organized religion, set in a rural village where a manipulative church minister schemes to defraud his flock". It "sets it's sights on the hypocrisies of organized religion" that are exploited by a conman who's plan is to milk the local inhabitants of their government relocation payments- when their town is set to be flooded because of the construction of a new dam. It's up to the one skeptic- a man with a sketchy past who doesn't have the best credibility- to convince the townspeople that are being conned, before it's too late. "As well as a scathing social polemic, The Fake is a fascinating portrait of a deeply unsympathetic protagonist whose pursuit of truth aims to serve his own deplorable ends."

I'm also an anarcho-punk fan that rides a bike, enjoys going on hikes, and really likes fruit....a sort of hippy-punk hybrid, if you will. I graduated from Brock University with an Honours degree in Political Science and an unofficial minor in Film. I enjoy writing learning, reading and writing about politics, film, and punk related issues. I hit shows in TO pretty often and look forward to checking out new films at TIFF every September.
