7. Hocus Pocus (1993)
Although it received mostly mixed to negative reviews, Hocus Pocus - a Disney effort - is one of the more fun, silly and enjoyable Halloween movies. It stars Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy as a family of witches who were sentenced to death in 1693 and are inadvertently resurrected by teenagers (as is always the case) Max, his sister Dani and classmate Allison. They return on Halloween night 300 years later and seek to turn their wrath on trick-or-treaters. Flying around on the modern day equivalent of broomsticks - vacuum cleaners (I kid you not) - they seek immortality and don't care who gets in their way. It is up to a 300 year old black cat (or, more specifically, a boy who was turned in to a cat on the same day back in 1693 that the witches were sentenced to death) to save the day. Of course, the witches are ultimately defeated and all is well. The film has a wonderful musical number ("I Put A Spell On You") and is generally a hoot, despite its reviews. Definitely one to watch with the kids around Halloween.
