2. Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
There was a time when Marvel's The Avengers was considered a gamble for the studio. Connecting several film franchises, produced over the course of four years, and culminating those characters into a shared universe was no easy task. The film could have easily been a mess, but due to Marvel's complete dedication their properties and the direction and writing of Joss Whedon, the film was a staggering success, both critically and financially. The film earned a 92% on Rottentomatoes and earned $1.5 billion globally, making it the third highest grossing film of all time. Extremely positive word of mouth gave the film incredible longevity over the summer, making it the fastest film to gross $1 billion. Anticipation and excitement are through the roof for the sequel, and after Iron Man 3 joined the billion dollar club this Spring, it's clear that it wasn't just a fluke. As long as the film is good, Avengers: Age of Ultron will match, and quite possibly beat, the success of the first film.
