10 Films We Predict Will Next Cross $1 Billion Mark

1. Star Wars Episode VII (2015)

Starwars7 The only film that may have been more anticipated than Star Wars Episode VII, was Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Though that film was a mild disappointment and enraged the fanbase of the original trilogy, it still managed to gross $924.3 million in its initial box office run. The 3D re-release in 2012 gained it another $102 million, pushing it over the top past the billion dollar mark. Though the next two films, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, would ultimately fail to win back the audience that Episode I had alienated, it wasn't enough to kill excitement about the prospect of future films. Rumors have been circulating about a sequel trilogy ever since the original films were released, and earlier this year Disney bought Lucasfilm and immediately announced their plans to make it happen. Currently, Episode VII is gearing up for production, under the direction of JJ Abrams, and will arrive sometime in 2015. With the central trio, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford, returning for the film, excitement (and anxiety) has never been higher. Abrams is under a lot of pressure to not only make a good film, but reinvigorate the saga, and make people excited about once again journeying to a galaxy far, far away. Whether or not the film is good, fans will be lining up to see it weeks in advance, and if it is good, there's no doubt that the film will dominate the box office as rabid fans see the film again and again. And there you have it! My predictions for the 10 upcoming films most likely to gross over $1 billion. What do you think of the list? And are there any films I may have missed that you think have a shot at joining the billion dollar club? Let me know in the comments below.
